Clinton Maroons Likely Need Win Friday for Postseason Birth

Last season, the IHSA playoff cut-off was 38 points and the Clinton Maroons had 37.

If the Maroons win Friday, they are in the postseason with six wins. A loss, however, likely ends their chances as 38 looks to be the cut-off again for a spot in the postseason, and Clinton would be at 37 unless South Fork can pull off an upset against Alton Marquette. Coach Chris Ridgeway, talking before Friday's contest against Sullivan, says this isn't something he's hiding from his team - they know the implications of Friday's matchup at Warrensburg-Latham High School.

Warrensburg-Latham has been eliminated from the playoffs as they are 3-5 overall but can play spoiler this year, just as they did last year when they won 21-14 at Clinton High School in week 9.

If the Maroons win, where will they be headed? That question will be speculated on throughout the night and into Saturday but be sure to hear the results on the WHOW/WEZC playoff preview show Saturday night from 7 pm to 9 pm. You'll hear from coaches in the postseason that lead teams in the Central Illinois Conference and all over central Illinois.

That's again Saturday night, from 7 pm to 9 pm on 92.3 FM/106.5 WHOW and on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.
