Buzzer Beater Sends Marshall Past Monticello

Daniel Tingley's layup as time expired sent Marshall past Monticello 59-58 in non-conference high school boys basketball action from Monticello High School Saturday afternoon.

 

After a Garrett Kepley layup put Monticello up 55-54 with 2:04 to play, Tingley was fouled on a 3-point shot and sank all three free throws.

 

The foul was committed by sophomore Dylan Gynalick but he came up clutch with four seconds by answering with a three to give the Sages the lead back.

 

But Tingley's huge day was finished up by his last second layup to send Marshall to their second straight win over Monticello.

 

Tingley finished with a game-high 23 points and five boards. Jesse Burdick recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

 

Kepley led Monticello with 17 points, five rebounds and three assists.

 

Gynalick's 12 points off the bench were a career high.

 

The Sages held just about every edge thought the afternoon, outreboinding Marshall 25-23, shooting 53-percent from the floor to the Lions' 46-percent and turned 18 turnovers into 23 points, compared to Marshall turning 15 turnovers into 17 points.

 

Monticello held the points in the paint advantage 40-30 and each squad made four 3s.

 

Marshall moves to 14-1 overall while Monticello drops to 7-5.
