Monticello Rolls Olympia

Joey Sprinkle ran for 44-yards to the end zone as time expired in the first half helping Monticello separate for 46-22 win over Olympia in Illini Prairie Conference high school football action Friday night outside Stanford.

 

With 20 seconds left, the Sages started from the 28 yard line. Sprinkle hit Tristan Foran for a designed hook-and-ladder. Foran faked the lateral pass and ran for 28 yards to the 44-yard line. With 9-seconds left, Sprinkle dropped back for a last play for the end zone, instead scrambled out of trouble to his left and beat a pair of defenders the final 14-yards for a score that gave Monticello a 27-14 halftime advantage.

 

Sprinkle’s 44-yard touchdown was a part of a 108 yards on the ground on seven carries and two touchdowns. He also threw for 249 yards and a touchdown. 

 

Sprinkle’s touchdown was a 29-yarder to Jacob Tackett. Tackett recorded five total touchdowns. Four on the ground where he ran for 102 yards on 15 carries. He also had two catches for 36 yards.

 

Foran had four catches for 90 yards Friday. Spencer Mitze (mitts) had two catches for 73 yards. 

 

Aston Wassom and Kaleb Reid were the Piatt/DeWitt County ServPro Co-Players of the Game with strong defensive performances against the Spartans wing-sets. 

 

The Sages improve to 3-0 overall and will host Bloomington Central Catholic. Game time is 7 pm and can be heard on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.
