Resurgent Tri-Valley Football Program Back in Conversation for Deep Postseason Run

Only once in Josh Roop's previous 12 years at Tri-Valley had his Vikings missed the postseason, and that was his first year in 2007-08. That changed in 2019 when the Vikings finished 4-5.

Coach Roop says his kids came into the season with the expectation to be undefeated. He says any team can set that goal for themselves but the kids put in the work to make it happen.

Primarily a run-first team over the years, Coach Roop says he's kept that philosophy but they are spreading it out this year and they have the ability to throw the football when they need to thanks to the talent they have.

Coach Roop admits perhaps they lost a bit of the culture they'd established in 2019 and that contributed to them missing the postseason. He credits year's seniors for stepping and leading and re-establishing that culture.

Coach Roop says the key for his team will be to continue to get better as the postseason rolls along and he and his team will be getting back to the basics and working on fundamentals.

The Vikings are the second seed in the north bracket of the 2A playoffs. They'll host Rockridge on Saturday at 1 pm. The winner takes on either Dee-Mack or Chicago North Lawndale.
