Monticello to Rely on Seniors in 2021-22 High School Basketball Season

The high school boy's basketball season kicks off this week and the Monticello Sages varsity team will rely on a senior-heavy group this year.

It's a group that went 8-3 in the spring and was competitive in every game in the abbreviated, pandemic impacted slate. Coach Kevin Roy called last year a rollercoaster but was pleased with the development of his team in the short time they were able to play.

Coach Roy describes his seven seniors as close and good friends on and off the court. He praises their coachability and work ethic.

As the game of basketball changes to a very dribble-drive and three-point reliant style of play, Coach Roy is remaining true to his roots of desiring a lot of ball movement and finding high-percentage shots.

The Sages open their 2021-22 basketball season Tuesday night at Pleasant Plains. The Sages hit the road for the first few weeks of the season games at Pleasant Plains and Riverton then its first home game on Friday, Dec. 3 at 7 pm.
