Monticello Rolls Marshall

The Monticello Sages started fast for the second time in as many days and never looked back routing Marshall 59-35 in non-conference high school boy's basketball action Saturday afternoon from the Sievers Center at Monticello High School.

The Sages opened up a 9-0 lead with 5:23 to play in the first quarter then led 19-3 at the 2:40 mark and led by as many as 32 with 4:02 left in the game and had a running clock most of the fourth quarter.

Dylan Ginalick scored ten of his game-high 20 points in the first quarter. Ginalick, who was held scoreless Friday night against Salt Fork, was the Piatt/DeWitt County ServPro player of the game.

Ben Cresap scored seven of his 14 points in the first quarter and Joey Sprinkle and Trevor Fox had eight points apiece for Monticello. Sprinkle grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

The Sages dished out 15 assists on their 25 team field goals and committed only nine turnovers, one in the first half.

Monticello forced Marshall into 17 team turnovers, converting those into 19 points, and scored 30 points in the paint.

The Sages shot 52-percent from the floor and made 9-of-18 attempts from three. Amazingly, Monticello did not shoot a free throw Saturday.

The Sages have won their first four games and Marshall dropped to 1-5.

Monticello will return home Tuesday night hosting Williamsville. It'll be the Sages' third Sangamo opponent on the schedule to date with an appointment at Maroa-Forsyth out of the Sangamo next Saturday afternoon and the Sangamo/Illini Prairie Shootout still to come later this season. Game time Tuesday against Williamsville is 7 pm. Hear the action on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.
