HS GBB: Big Second Half Propels Monticello Past Pontiac

In a game heard on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, the Monticello Lady Sages clamped down on defense in the second half and ran away from Pontiac in a 52-34 win in Illini Prairie Conference high school girl's basketball action from the Sievers Center at Monticello High School Monday night.

 

Lizzie Stivers, who took a hard foul in the first half and missed substantial time with a bloody nose, scored 15 of her game-high 19 points in the second half leading a balanced Monticello scoring effort.

 

Renni Fultz scored 13 points with eight coming in the first half for Monticello.

 

The Lady Indians were paced by Bailey Masching but all her points were scored in the first half as the Lady Sages used a strong effort to keep her at bay in the second half.

 

The Lady Sages led 25-20 at the break and outscored Pontiac 16-9 in the third quarter and held the Lady Indians to 14 total points in the second half.

 

Pontiac drops to 7-19 overall and just 1-6 in the Illini Prairie. 

 

Monticello moves to 17-10 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
