A late Friday rally for the Clinton Lady Maroons softball team fell short and then Clinton was downed by Meridian 13-3 Saturday in a pair of Central Illinois Conference high school girl's softball.
The Lady Maroons fell behind 10-3 after five innings Friday but rallied with a three-run sixth and a two-run seventh but its bid for a rally fell short.
Morgan Fortune drove in three runs with a 2-for-3 afternoon while Chloe Griffin drove in two. Brook Reeves reached base twice with a 1-for-3 afternoon and walked.
In the Saturday matchup with Meridian, Griffing again went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and Kianna Easton went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
The Lady Maroons drop to 2-12 overall and are 1-7 in the CIC. They will return to CIC play this afternoon hosting Decatur St. Teresa.
