Mahomet-Seymour Football Embracing High Expectations

The Mahomet-Seymour Bulldogs football team flew under the radar for most of the 2021 fall football season, advancing to the 5A quarterfinal round of the playoffs.

No one is sleeping on Jon Adkins' team in 2022 as expectations are high. That's OK with the third year coach who indicates his team is embracing the fact they will get everyone's best shot on their schedule.

With expectations high, Coach Adkins took a very different approach to the summer and indicates he will probably take a different approach to the season. He calls it a less is more approach because he wants to keep his kids healthy.

Coach Adkins is very excited for the core players he has returning from last year's team. His senior quarterback, Wyatt Bohm, led the state in passing yards last season with a dynamic wide receiver, Quenton Rogers, to throw to and a stout middle linebacker, Nick Golden, that leads the defense. While those three get a lot of the attention, Coach Adkins says he'll let other players that will be impactful make their statements on the field this fall.

With the season right around the corner and practices opening on Monday, Coach Adkins says the focus for the preseason practice schedule is going to be focusing on the little things that will allow them to get better week after week.

Coach Adkins is also focusing on enjoying the accomplishments of his team, something he says he did not do a good job of last year.

The Bulldogs open the season taking on Morton, who knocked them out of the 5A playoffs last year. Coach Adkins notes that was somewhat of a fluke circumstance that developed this offseason.
