In a game heard Friday night on WHOW, the Clinton Maroons traveled to Warrensburg-Latham and downed the Cardinals, 28-14.
The Maroons led 7-6 at halftime before opening the third quarter with a 64 yard touchdown pass. Clinton built upon the lead after that on the back of junior running back, Tristin Potts. He carried the Maroons, running 33 times for 246 yards and a touchdown. He earned the Serv-Pro of Piatt & Dewitt County Maroons Player of the Game for the second week in a row. The Maroons offfensive line also earned a mention, not only for their run blocking, but also for protecting sophomore quarterback, Colton Walker. Walker went 5 of 6 passing for 79 yards & a touchdown. He also ran 13 times for 39 yards & two touchdowns in his first varsity start. Dawson Graves caught 3 passes for 74 yards and a touchdown, and also ran 9 times for 25 yards. In total, the Maroons ran for over 300 yards in route to their first conference victory under second year Head Coach Ron Bass.
Warrensburg-Latham was led by sophomore quarterback, Brayden Hickey, who went 9 of 20 passing for 116 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. The pick was made by Clinton's Ryan Stapleton at a key moment late in the fourth quarter. Senior Shayne Gillen paced the Cardinals with 7 carries for 60 yards, and 4 catches for 81 yards & 2 touchdowns.
Clinton improves to 2-5 with the win, and 1-4 in the CIC. Warrensburg falls to 2-5 overall, and 0-5 in the conference. They'll travel to Tuscola next week.
