In a game heard on WEZC, Prairie Central used early big plays to propel them to a dominant win over Monticello, 48-13 win in Illini Prairie Conference high school football action.
On Monticello's first possession, Drew Sheppard was hit on a third down pass and it was intercepted and returned for a touchdown as the Hawks went up 8-0. The turnover was deflating as Monticello held Prairie Central to a three-and-out on the first drive of the game.
Senior quarterback Drew Haberkorn ran for touchdowns of 83 and 47 yards in the fourth quarter staking Prairie Central to 24-0 lead after the first quarter and the Hawks would not look back after that.
Haberkorn ran seven times for 153 yards. He completed just three passes on five attempts, including a 45-yard touchdown to Avery Elder and an interception.
Drew Fehr had 15 carries for 105 yards and two touchdowns for Prairie Central
Sheppard finished 7-for-13 for 92 yards for the Sages. He also ran nine times for 57 yards and a touchdown. Tylor Bundy added a one-yard touchdown run for Monticello.
Sheppard was named the ServPro of Piatt/DeWitt County Player of the Game.
The Hawks stay undefeated at 8-0 while the Sages drop to 5-3.
