HS BBBall: Blue Ridge Can't Overcome Slow Start in Season Opener

Lowpoint-Washburn started fast and a late rally by Blue Ridge fell short in a 68-58 season opening loss for the Knights Tuesday from Lowpoint-Washburn High School.

The Wildcats starteed fast, getting out to a 24-12 advantage after the first quarter as six players scored in the first frame. Baylor Steffan scored ten of his 20 points points in the second quarter helping stake Lowpoint-Washburn to a 40-24 lead at the break.

Clayton Grebner scored 14 of his 20 points in the third quarter, helping the Wildcats hold serve with a 56-40 lead after three quarters.

Blue Ridge made things interesting in the fourth, but could only convert 5-of-10 free throw attempts down the stretch and fell short.

Three players scored in double figures for the Knights. Zach Lewis led Blue Ridge with 12 points. Gabe Strough scored 11 points and Isaac Price contributed 10 points.

Blue Ridge returns to action Friday hosting Lowpoint Washburn.
