HS Bball: Maroons Handle Redskins For 1st CIC Win

In a game heard Friday night on WHOW, the Clinton Maroons topped the Sullivan Redskins, 54-35, in the Central Illinois Conference opener for both teams.

Clinton jumped out early, and never trailed.  The Maroons were up 31-16 at half, and then held Sullivan to only 4 third quarter points to pull away to a 28-point lead after three.  A running clock fourth quarter made for an early end to the night.

The Maroons were paced by Junior Mason Walker with 14 points.  Junior Dawson Graves added 10.  Junior Brooks Cluver earned the WHOW / Serv Pro of Piatt/DeWitt County Player of the Game for the Maroons.  He added 10 points, several of which were made on acrobatic shots, including a first half alley oop lay-in.

Sullivan was led by Sophomores Cooper Christensen and Schafer Ogle, who each had 8 points for the now 3-11 Redskins.  Sullivan hosts Cerro Gordo-Bement Saturday.

The Maroons improve to 14-3 with the win, and 1-0 in conference.  They'll next play Saturday at home against Calvary Christian as part of the New Year's Showdown at Clinton High School.

Our next Maroons broadcast on WHOW comes your way Tuesday night when Clinton hosts Monticello in non-conference action.  Hear varsity action around 7:30pm on all WHOW platforms.
