HS GBBall: Balanced Scoring Leads Monticello Over PBL

In a game heard on WEZC and at dewittdailynews.com, Monticello used balanced scoring and a big second half to rally past Paxton-Buckley-Loda in 53-44 in Illini Prairie Conference high school girl's basketball action from the Sievers Center at Monticello High School Thursday.

 

PBL jumped out early 10-4 lead but Monticello closed the quarter on an 8-0 run to go up 12-10 after the first.

 

PBL jumped back out in front 24-21 at the break.

 

From there, Monticello took advantage of an aggressive zone defense played by the Lady Panthers. 

 

Monticello stormed to a 40-33 lead at the end of the third and ran away with it from there.

 

Freshman Maia High had another terrific game for Monticello scoring 18 points and grabbing nine rebounds. High was named the ServPro of Piatt/DeWitt County Player of the Game. Tavey Young scored 11 points and grabbed eight boards while Lydia Burger came off the bench to score 10 points.

 

 PBL was led by Trixie Johnson's 23 points. She scored the first ten for the Lady Panthers.

 

PBL drops to 8-11 overall and 1-3 in the Illini Prairie Conference while Monticello moves to 7-13.
