HS BBall: Clinton Downs St. Teresa

In a game heard Monday afternoon on WHOW, the Clinton Maroons topped the visiting St. Teresa Bulldogs, 7-2, in Central Illinois Conference baseball action.

Clinton's Mason Walker set the tone on the mound early, striking out the side in the top of the first.  Maroons shortstop Brooks Cluver then led off the bottom half of the first with a solo blast to left center on the first pitch of the inning.  The Maroons would add another run to lead 2-0 after the first.

Walker would go on to no-hit the Bulldogs thru four innings before Cam Knapik homered to lead off the fifth.  From there, the Maroons Junior would only allow one more hit through six innings of work.  Walker was named the Serv Pro of Piatt/DeWitt County Player of the Game as he earned the win allowing only one run on two hits with two walks while striking out twelve.

Clinton added a run in the second on Cluver's RBI single.  He led the Maroons at the plate going two for four with 2 RBI. Braden Thayer also went 3 for 3 with 3 RBI, including a two run single in the third. Clinton added two more runs in the fifth.  St. T would add two runs and threaten with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, but the Maroons held on for the win with Cluver pitching in relief.

Joe Brummer took the loss for St. Teresa giving up seven runs on seven hits while walking five and striking out six in five innings of work.  The loss drops the Bulldogs to 13-3 on the year, and 5-2 in conference.

Clinton improves to 5-5 on the season, and 4-3 in the CIC.  They'll next play Wednesday at Sullivan.

Our next Maroons Game of the Week broadcast on WHOW is next Tuesday at 4:30pm when the Lady Maroons host Argenta-Oreana.
