In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Monticello used a big run in the first set to get by Argenta-Oreana 25-21 and 25-12 in the season opening match of the girl's volleyball season Monday night in Monticello.

The Sages and Bombers played back-and-forth in the first set to a 12-all tie. 

Monticello used an 11-0 run to go up 23-12. The Bombers rallied back with nine straight of their own but the Sages put the first match away and were never really challenged going away in the second set.

Sierra Downey led the Sages with six kills. Tavey Young and Jobi Smith each recorded five kills. 

Callie Darsham helped spark the Sages' first set run with three aces. Maddie Melton added two aces.

Monticello is 1-0 on the season and Argenta-Oreana falls to 0-1.
