HS FBall: Argenta-Oreana Focused on Big Time Turnaround

If a team that just went 0-9, is battling a numbers game in its program and has a second-year coach, an improvement of simply winning multiple games would be considered a huge success.

While that may be the case for some, Argenta-Oreana football has bigger goals for this fall. Coach Clay Haurberg says his very young team learned some valuable lessons last season and with most of his football team also in his basketball program, he saw growth across that eight-month stretch.

Coming into this season, Coach Haurberg likes his team speed and has a junior quarterback with a year of experience. He feels those two components of his team could be real assets.

Coach Haurberg says his kids are determined to make the playoffs. He says this is a very enjoyable group of players to coach.

With 28 of his 42 players in the program in his basketball program, Coach Haurberg likes the attitude of his football team. He believes they can be a playoff team this year but notes, it will be difficult in the difficult Lincoln Prairie Conference.

He feels with the football schedule being closed because the conference has 10 teams, that is an advantage to his team in getting back to the playoffs from a points perspective.

The Bombers open the season hosting Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond.
