HS FBall: St. Joseph-Ogden Rolls Monticello

Logan Smith accounted for six touchdowns and St. Joseph-Ogden rolled Monticello 40-14 in the season opener in Illini Prairie Conference high school football action Friday night in St. Joseph.

Smith led an impressive opening drive that ended with his first touchdown from five yards out.

The teams alternated turnovers on the next two drives. Monticello found its footing offensively when senior Luke Teschke scrambled for an impressive 42-yard touchdown to put the Sages up 7-6.

But St. Joe would outscored Monticello 33-7 the rest of the way.

The Sages missed a lot of opportunities to maintain momentum and even score.

Teschke finished 23-for-35 for 254 yards with three interceptions and a touchdown. He added 119 yards on the ground on 11 carries.

Raiden Colbert hauled in seven catches for 85 yards while Carter Foran had four catches for 68 yards and a touchdown.

Ike Young had six catches for 87 yards and a touchdown. He also had 27 yards on the ground on four carries.

The game was delayed nearly 90 minutes by lightning from a thunderstorm that rolled through central Illinois Friday.

Monticello drops to 0-1 on the season. They will host IVC in the home opener as well as senior night next Friday. Hear the action on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.
