HS FBALL: Clinton Falls To Tri-Valley

In a game heard Friday night on WHOW, the Clinton Maroons fell to Tri-Valley, 34-14, in a non-conference football matchup at Clinton High School.

Neither team could find the end zone in the first quarter, but the Vikings tallied three second quarter scores.  Quarterback Cole Klein found Cade Danko through the air twice for 10 & 16-yard scores, and then Klein ran in a 3-yard score just before half to put Tri-Valley up 21-0 at the break.

Klein wasn't done.  He opened the third quarter with a 74-yard breakaway score to put the Vikings up 28-0.

Clinton was able to get on the board in the third with a 14-yard Mason Walker touchdown run.  Walker would find Dalton Graves for a 10-yard touchdown pass later in the quarter to pull the Maroons back to within two touchdowns.  However, Tri-Valley came up with a big fourth quarter stop, and then a Danko 90-yard touchdown run put the game away, 34-14, in favor of the Vikings.

Klein led Tri-Valley's option ground game as he piled up 243 yards on 25 carries and two touchdowns. The junior was 2 of 6 through the air for 26 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Cade Danko had 2 carries for 88 yards and a score to go along with 2 catches for 26 yards and 2 TD's.

As for Clinton, quarterback Mason Walker was 5 of 17 passing for 62 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.  His receivers didn't do the senior QB any favors with several dropped passes on the night.  Walker ran the ball 18 times for 60 yards and a score.  Dawson Graves was named the WHOW / Serv Pro of Piatt/DeWitt County Player of the Game primarily For his defensive effort chasing down several Viking ball carriers through the game.  He also had 3 catches for 41 yards and a touchdown to go with 5 carries for 29 yards.  Tristin Potts had 14 carries for 89 yards as well for the Maroons.

Tri-Valley improves to 2-0 on the season as they travel to Fisher next week.

Clinton falls to 1-1 on the year, and travels to Eureka for another non-conference matchup next Friday night.  Hear live coverage on all WHOW platforms.
