HS FBall: Monticello Uses Big Plays to Roll IVC

In a game heard on WEZC and at dewittdailynews.com, Monticello used big plays and turnovers to roll past IVCv 52-13 in Illini Prairie Conference football action Friday at Monticello High School.

Luke Teschke rebounded from a rocky first varsity start in last week's loss to St. Joseph-Ogden and accounted for five touchdowns, all in the first half.

Teschke was 9-for-16 through the air for 232 yards and three touchdowns. He added 45 yards on the ground on seven carries and two more scores.

Teshke connected with Carter Foran for 71 yards for the first score of the game.

After Ike Young capitalized on a special teams turnover for a 25-yard touchdown run, Teschke answered the Grey Ghosts' first score of the night and hit Raiden Colber from 65 yards for a 21-7 lead.

Cole Sowinski hit a 33-yard field goal to put the Sages up 24-7 and Teschke scored twice more on short-yard runs and just before the half found Foran again in the back of the end zone from 16 yards out for a 45-7 lead at the intermission.

The cushion allowed the ServPro of Piatt/DeWitt County Player of the Game to rest the entire second half.

Nolan Buehnerkemper had two interceptions on defense for Monticello.

Foran finished with three catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns.

Colbert had three catches for 80 yards and a touchdown.

Young finished 87 rushing yards as he was able to get a couple of series of snaps playing quarterback.

Trey Welter had three catches and 61 yards.

Monticello is 1-1 and IVC falls to 0-2.

The Sages host Confluence Prep Academy next Saturday at 2 p.m. Hear the action on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.
