HS FBALL: Shelbyville Tops Clinton For CIC Crown

In a game heard on WHOW Friday night, the Clinton Maroons fell to the Shelbyville Rams, 28-12, on Senior Night at Clinton High School.  The win gave the Rams the Central Illinois Conference title.  
 

Shelbyville got on the board first with a 48-yard Landon Wallis touchdown run halfway through the first quarter.  Clinton would answer back just before the end of the first when Dawson Graves broke off a 65-yard score to tie the game at 6-6.  
 

Wallis would find the end zone from 3-yards out midway through the second to put the Rams up 14-6.  Shelbyville would then score with no time left in the half on a 10-yard Brody Boehm run to go up 22-6 at the break.  
 

The Maroons came out throwing in the third quarter as Mason Walker hit Keaton Graves for a big 57-yard play that would lead to a 34-yard touchdown pass from Walker to Dawson Graves.  That brought the score to 22-12 Shelbyville.  The Rams would add a final score with two minutes to go in the third when Caden Shasteen plunged in from two yards out.  The fourth quarter was scoreless as the Rams held on for the 28-12 win. 
 

Boehm led Shelbyville's ground attack with 146 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries.  He was 2 of 6 passing for 60 yards.  Shasteen carried the ball 18 times for 96 yards and a touchdown.  Wallis scored twice with 83 yards on 9 carries.  The Rams improve to 8-0, and 5-0 in conference.  They travel to Nashville to wrap up the regular season next week. 
 

Clinton was led by Dawson Graves, who carried the ball 3 times for 86 yards and a score.  He also had two catches for 44 yards and a touchdown.  Mason Walker was 7 of 15 passing for 104 yards and a touchdown.  Tristin Potts carried the ball 12 times for 38 yards for the Maroons.  Logan Thoms was named the Maroons WHOW / Serv Pro of Piatt/DeWitt County Player of the Game for his outstanding defensive performance. 
 

Clinton falls to 5-3 on the season, and they finish 4-1 for second place in the CIC. They'll travel to Pontiac next week to wrap up the regular season.  Hear the action Friday on all WHOW platforms.
