HS BBBall: Clinton Docks Bombers

The Clinton Maroons used a big third quarter and five players scored in double figures as Clinton neutralized the Argenta-Oreana Bombers 72-56 in non-conference high school boy's basketball from Argenta Thursday night.

 

Led by former Clinton basketball coach Clay Haurberg, the Bombers held leads of 15-14 and 37-35 after the first two quarters, but the Maroons exploded for a 22-9 third quarter and jumped ahead 57-46 and pulled away in the fourth quarter.

 

Sophomore Keaton Graves led a balanced scoring attack for Clinton with 17 points. Brooks Cluver and Mason Walker scored 15 points, Dawson Graves finished with 11 points, and Colton Walker had 10. 

 

Ethan Mahan scored 19 points to lead the Bombers. Jalynn Flowers added 15 points. 

 

The game was the season finale for both squads before beginning Regional play next week. 

 

Argenta-Oreana wraps up the regular season 17-13 overall. For the Bombers, it is off to a Regional quarterfinal matchup with DeLand-Weldon Monday in Argenta.

 

The Central Illinois Conference champion Maroons finish the regular season 27-4 overall - its second consecutive 25-win season under hall-of-fame basketball coach Vic Binkley. Clinton awaits the winner of a Class 2A Regional quarterfinal matchup between Tri-Valley and Dee-Mack next Wednesday at Olympia High School.
