Matt Swartz broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the 8th inning with a sacrifice fly helping Monticello retain a perfect record and hold off IVC 4-1 in eight innings from Chillicothe in Illini Prairie Conference baseball Saturday morning.
Swartz was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Dylan Brown finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Koyie Williams was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Moving to the top of the order in a lineup shakeup, Luke Tesche reached base four times with three walks and finished 1-for-2 with a run scored.
Williams threw seven innings of one-run ball with six strikeouts. He walked one and permitted five hits. Ike Young closed out the win with a scoreless inning of relief, striking out two.
