HS Baseball: Normal U-High Topples Normal Community

Normal U-High scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning and rallied past Normal Community 6-4 in non-conference high school baseball action from Normal on Wednesday.

 

Charlie Vercruysse hit a solo shot to start the scoring for the Pioneers in the seventh. A two-run error and then a Will Paxson RBI single was the extent of the damage for U-High. 

 

Vercruysse, a Notre Dame commit, was a triple short of the cycle going 3-for-4 with a a double, an RBI, and two runs scored. Max Willie, Lawson Shickel, and Paxson added RBIs for U-High. Max Heineman was 2-for-4. 

 

Ryan Theile was 1-for-3 with an RBI to lead Normal Community. Kyle Beaty was 2-for-3 with a double and run scored and Owen Cavanaugh finished 1-for-3 with a double.

 

Normal U-High 20-6 overall. They will travel to Decatur MacArthur this afternoon. The Pioneers are the second seed in its Sectional. They will meet the winner of Tremont and Dee-Mack to start Regional play on Wednesday, May 15 from the Bloomington Central Catholic Regional.

 

Normal Community is 24-3 overall. They will host Bloomington High on Friday.
