Cardinals Holiday To Compete in HR Derby Tonight; New Twist To Competition

>>AL & NL Battle In HR Derby

(Phoenix, AZ)  --  There's a new format in place tonight when the sluggers take the diamond at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona for the annual Home Run Derby.  The past two champions of the event, Boston's David Ortiz and Milwaukee's Prince Fielder, were named league captains and allowed to choose three players from their respective dugouts to compete as a team.  2010 Champion Ortiz selected Red Sox teammate Adrian Gonzalez, the Yankees' Robinson Cano and Toronto's Jose Bautista, who leads all of baseball with 31 homers at the break.  2009 champ Fielder selected teammate Rickie Weeks, Dodgers slugger Matt Kemp and Cardinals thumper Matt Holliday.  The "gold" baseballs thrown when players are down to their last out have a panel infused with 24-karat gold and are worth an estimated $150-dollars.  Each "Golden Ball" that is hit for a home run will bring a donation of $18-thousand-dollars from State Farm and MLB to The Boys And Girls Clubs of America.
