Area residents in need of a good set of wheels have the chance to pick up an affordable bicycle Saturday, and help out the Clinton Police Department at the same time.
Each year the Clinton Police Department becomes the home for a wide variety of unclaimed bicycles that are either lost or stolen from around the city. Police Chief Mike Reidy indicates the department currently has on hand about 70 bicycles that have gone unclaimed. He says the bikes come from all over the City of Clinton and they are looking to find them a home.
This year the auction features something new. The Police Department will be auctioning off tools that have not been claimed. Chief Reidy explains the tools originally come from thefts and become unclaimed tools.
According to Reidy, the police department is using the auction as a fund raiser. He explains they've invested in a full service K-9 unit into the department and Saturday's bike auction will
According to Cheif Reidy, Clinton Auto Auction has been the site of the auction since it was held downtown where the Chief himself would play the role of auctioneer. Chief Reidy says he is very grateful for Clinton Auto Auction opening up their services to the department.
Again the auction takes place Saturday at 1pm at the Clinton Auto Auction, and there will be bikes and tools up for grabs this year.
