Statewide School Transportation Cuts Cause Unique Transportation Ideas

State funding for student transportation was slashed in half for the upcoming school year and at least one district is proposing a quote, "walking school bus."  It's where students carpool or walk to school together.  Bob Perica [[ pear-eeka ]], school board member for Edwardsville School District number seven, says they're identifying students who don't need bus service.

As a direct result of the funding cut, 650 bus stops will no longer be served.  On top of funding issues for the upcoming year, Perica says they're still waiting to be reimbursed for a large portion of last year's transportation costs.
