A teenager from Illinois has died after the all-terrain vehicle she was on struck a deer.

9-year-old Alexis Pillsbury of Petersburg, Ill., died following the accident at 12 a.m. Sunday in Shelby County, Mo., near Bethel.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident happened on Route J when an ATV driven by 16-year-old Denton Bichsel of Leonard, Mo., struck a deer in the roadway. Both Denton and Pillsbury were ejected.

Pillsbury was pronounced dead a short time later at a hospital in Quincy, Ill.
