Eastern Illinois Man Gets 35 Years in Brothers Murder

An eastern Illinois man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for shooting his brother to death in a grocery store owned by their family as part of a long-running feud over money.

43-year-old Brian Maggio of Savoy will have to serve all the sentence handed down Wednesday in a Champaign County Court.

Maggio pleaded guilty in June to first-degree murder in the July 2010 death of 32-year-old Mark Maggio.

Witnesses told authorities that Brian Maggio shot his brother once during a disagreement in the IGA grocery in Tolono. The small town is about 7 miles south of Champaign.

At the time, the brothers owned two grocery stores, the one in Tolono and another in nearby Arcola.
