Cubs & Cards Lose; Cards Debut Jackson Tonight; Cubs Deal Fukudome

(St. Louis, MO)  --  Carlos Lee went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI as the Astros clipped the Cardinals 5-3.  Lee also scored a pair of runs to help Houston earn a split in the four-game series.  Wandy Rodriguez struck out six over seven strong innings to even his record at 7-and-7.  Mark Melancon pitched a perfect ninth to notch his 10th save.  Albert Pujols ripped an RBI double for the Cards, who are now a game-and-a-half behind the NL Central-leading Brewers.  Jaime Garcia allowed five runs, four earned, over six innings to fall to 10-and-5.  The Cardinals host the Cubs for three games starting tonight.

(Milwaukee, WI)  --  Ryan Braun finished 3-for-4 with a solo home run and an RBI double as the Brewers beat the Cubs 4-2 to sweep a three-game set.  Shaun Marcum gave up two runs in six innings to improve to 10-and-3 on the season.  John Axford worked a flawless ninth to notch his 27th straight save and 30th of the season.  Aramis Ramirez and Alfonso Soriano plated runs for Chicago, which was coming off its first three-game sweep of the season before getting swept at Miller Park.  Randy Wells allowed all four runs through six frames to absorb the loss.  The Cubs come to St. Louis tonight for a three-game set at Busch Stadium.

>>Jackson To Make Redbirds Debut

(St. Louis, MO)  --  The Cardinals will get a look at the newest member of their rotation tonight.  Edwin Jackson, who was acquired in Wednesday's eight-player trade with the Blue Jays, starts the first of a three-game series against the Cubs.  Jackson was acquired by Toronto from the White Sox earlier in the day before being shipped to St. Louis in the deal for Colby Rasmus.

(Cleveland, OH)  --  The Indians have added some outfield depth with the acquisition of Kosuke Fukudome from the Cubs.  Cleveland also received cash in the deal, with outfielder Abner Abreu and pitcher Carlton Smith going to Chicago in return.  The 34-year-old Fukudome is making $13.5-million in the final season of a four-year pact.  He's batting .273 with three home runs and 13 RBI, and sports a .375 on-base percentage. The Northsiders recalled outfielder Tyler Colvin from Triple-A Iowa to fill Fukudome's roster spot.
