Lincoln's Railsplitter Festival This Weekend

Logan County will be the place to be this weekend. Festivites will soon be under way for the 41st annual Abraham Lincoln National Railsplitting Festival. The majority of the weekend will take place at the Logan County fairgrounds.

This popular Lincoln tradition, which focuses on the heritage of President Lincoln and Central IL, will be centered around the 150th anniversary of the Civil War this year, according to the director of the Logan County Tourism Bureau, Geoff Ladd. This year's festival will give visitors a better understanding of what life was like in the 1860s.

The annual festival features exciting contests such as the National Railsplitter tournament which draws people from all over IL and beyond.  Ladd says that the railsplitting contest is a must-see event for those visiting the festival.

According to Ladd, this weekend will feature events such as log rolling, tomahawk competitions and bucksawing. College Forestry teams will be competing also.

There will also be food concessions, flea markets and craft vendors throughout the weekend as well. Ladd added that if you're a crafter or flea marketer you're first booth vendor space will be free.The festival will be running the whole weekend from the 16th-18th.  If you have any questions or would like to get involved you can go www.railsplitting.com for more information.
