A former member of the Pekin City Council has pleaded not guilty to running into a police officer with his vehicle.
64-year-old John Neumann entered pleas Monday to aggravated battery of a peace officer and resisting a peace officer.
Police have said Neumann tried to move a police barricade for a YMCA run in August so he could cross a blocked street. According to police, an officer told Neumann he couldn't do that and the councilman drove his vehicle into the officer. The officer was treated at a local hospital for unspecified injuries.
Neumann has waived his right to a preliminary hearing. A judge has set his trial date for Nov. 14. He has resigned his seat on the Pekin City Council.
