Regional Superintendents Won't Appeal Judge's Ruling

The Illinois Association of Regional Superintendents of Schools says it won't appeal after a central Illinois judge refused to overturn the governor's decision to cut off pay to 44 superintendents and their assistants.

Bob Daiber is association president. He's disappointed in the ruling, but says it's time to focus on the next step. He says the superintendents are building support for a solution that restores state funding.

In July, Gov. Pat Quinn cut off pay to superintendents and their assistants. He says the state can't afford to pay the superintendents' salaries when the budget is so tight that lawmakers cut $150 million from school spending.

Last month, a Sangamon County judge refused to intervene in the dispute.

Illinois' 44 regional offices of education cover a range of responsibilities under law.
