Cattle Break Free, Graze on Golf Course

A herd of cattle broke free in north-central Illinois and started grazing on a golf course.

About 40 beef cattle crossed a road Thursday morning and made their way onto the fairways and greens at South Bluff Country Club in Peru. Two men, John and Eugene Kurtz of Peru, were getting ready to play when the cattle joined them on the course.

Golf club crews worked to drive the herd back across the road and onto a farm. They used motorized carts to keep the cattle concentrated in the corner of the golf course. Some cattle were on the roadway.
