Old Illinois Theater Has New Owners, New Future

An old eastern Illinois movie theater with an uncertain future has a new owner.

A group that owns an old theater in Streator has bought the 72-year-old Will Rogers Theatre in Charleston with plans to reopen it for movies and live performances.

Theater chain AMC Entertainment closed the Will Rogers late in 2010. A group of Charleston residents has looked since then for a buyer or someone to help preserve the Art Deco theater.

The buyers include real estate agents James and Katie Troccoli and Tim Burke. Burke is from Ottawa, Ill., but now lives in California.

They own and run the Majestic Theatre in Streator and say they're looking forward to renovating and reopening the Will Rogers.
