Chatham Reconsiders Bench Ban In Cemetery

Chatham city officials are reconsidering a longstanding rule that bans benches and other items on grave sites in the Chatham Memorial Cemetery.  The rule has been in place for more than 30-years but they say the grieving process has changed since that time.  The city is looking for a way to accommodate people's grieving needs.  For now, the city will allow people to keep their benches but they still aren't sure how to handle items that are left around headstones.  They say items like toys, shrubs, and fences make it difficult to keep the cemetery grounds in-tact.  They'll hold another meeting to discuss the issue in the next few weeks.
