DCRA Seeks Funds From City For Magill Project

The DeWitt County Restoration Association (DCRA) is looking to begin some projects on the Magill House in Clinton.

The DCRA recently has contacted Clinton Mayor Carolyn Peters about acquiring some funds from a TIF fund, which would be a little over $350-thousand. Mayor Peters explains the funds are assessed to the Magill Home. She says they asked the DCRA to get quotes for what they wanted to do to the house, most of those projects involved exterior work.

The estimates the DCRA came back to Mayor Peters with was $270-thousand for all the work they wanted to do. This agreement with the DCRA dates back to Mayor Roger Cyrulik and an agreement the council then put in place with the DCRA. Mayor Peters explains she did not want to give them the full $270-thousand, so they worked out a deal to receive $150-thousand dollars.

Tonight at the Clinton City Council's first of their two February meetings, the council vote to amend the Redevelopment agreement in place to allow the DCRA access to the $150-thousand dollars.

Also on tap for tonight's meeting, the Council has closed on the buildings at 221 and 223 East Washington Street. Mayor Peters explains they are going to move forward with asbestos testing. She speculates the building may not be able to be saved, and they may have to start thinking about tearing them down.

Mayor Peters is hopeful someone representing the DCRA can update the Council and speak about the Magill House's projects.

The Clinton City Council meets tonight at 7 pm at Clinton City Hall.
