Women Lawmakers Walk For Heart Disease Awareness

Being physically fit can help ward off heart disease and women in the Illinois legislature are taking that information to heart.  They're tracking their steps to bring awareness to the disease and they've pledged to wear a pedometer between March 5th and April 29th.  The idea is to keep count of the number of steps they take each day.  Once the challenge is over, the step totals will be converted to miles.  That's significant because Pfizer will donate one dollar for each mile walked, which will go toward the Conference of Women Legislators scholarship fund.  The women are inviting men to join them in the challenge.  Representative Naomi Jakobbson says both men and women can take steps to prevent the disease.  Steps include controlling weight, blood pressure and cholesterol, eating a nutritious diet, reducing your stress level and quitting smoking.
