Gun Registry Proposal Sparks Anger

One down state lawmaker is furious over Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s proposal to implement a statewide registry for handgun owners.  They’d be required to pay a 65 dollar registration fee to get on the list.  Emanuel says the registry will help reduce violent crimes in Chicago but Benton Senator Gary Forby isn’t buying it.  He says he doesn’t see how requiring a hunter in Southern Illinois to pay 65 dollars to register his gun is going to stop crimes in Chicago.  Forby says he’s sick of Chicago politicians trying to force their anti-gun laws on the entire state.   As far as he’s concerned, Illinois should be on track to pass conceal carry, not implementing laws that take away a person’s basic constitutional right.
