Lincoln Receives Grant For Downtown Revitalization

The City of Lincoln has received a grant to help in revitalization efforts to their downtown area.

Nearly two years ago, Lincoln applied for a grant through the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. They have recently received word they will receive the grant in the amount of $675-thousand. Mayor of the City of Lincoln, Keith Snyder explains the grant will be used to help the downtown area improve it's look. Part of the grant includes developing a strategic plan for the downtown area.

Mayor Snyder points out downtown Lincoln is a very historical area, and he says they are going to have to walk the fine line of revitalizing and preserving the rich history of the area.

The City recently applied for a grant through the Illinois Department of Transportation for some construction projects downtown. IDOT wanted to see the city have a plan in place, and Mayor Snyder explains this project will improve the city's chances to receive the IDOT grant.

Mayor Snyder notes there are some federal guidelines for how the money they receive can be used, which is mostly planning.

The downtown area has had some local independent business owners take over a few buildings. Mayor Snyder points out specifically the downtown movie theater and the Scully Building as two of the most common buildings that have been restored and renovated. He feels they are big improvements, and looks forward to following their lead.
