Blue Ridge Looks To Finalize Drug Testing Policy

The Blue Ridge Board of Education will be looking to institute a drug policy they have been working on for some time now.

The Blue Ridge school district has been working on drafting a policy of a drug test for their students. Superintendent of Blue Ridge Schools, Susan Wilson explains they are being very careful in this process. She says they are close to a final copy but some issues have come up they wanted to resolve. One issue was language regarding should a student-athlete test positive, do they need to pass a test to resume their sport.

The drug testing policy will be a  year round policy. Wilson explains if a student signs up by a certain deadline the district will pay for their random test. However, if they are late to the sign up, they have to pay for the tests throughout the year and they have to be tested as soon as they are signed up.
