The Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox and Cubs have settled on compensation for Theo Epstein. The Cubs sent pitcher Chris Carpenter to Boston. The 26-yeaer-old right-hander made his major league debut last year for Chicago, posting a 2.79 ERA in 10 relief outings. The teams will also each exchange a player to be named later. The Red Sox were seeking compensation for letting Epstein out of the final year of his contract as general manager to become the president of baseball operations for the Cubs.
