Miller Park Zoo Seeking Community Input At Meetings Tuesday

Those who frequent the Miller Park Zoo from around the area have an opportunity to give their input on the zoo's future this week.

Superintendent of the Miller Park Zoo, Jay Tetzloff, says he wants to see the zoo be a community asset for the next 15-20 years. Along with providing input for the future of the zoo, those who attend the meetings will have the opportunity to see sketches of what the zoo has in store as a part of their Master Plan they are currently in the middle of.

One of the biggest needs the zoo currently has is the need for a concession stand. Tetzloff says that is a big key for the near future of the zoo. He would also like to know what your thoughts are on their animal selection. He says a big part of their Master Plan is to increase their revenues and rely less on tax dollars.

Tetzloff estimates the completion of their Master Plan is nearly half complete. Tetzloff says the community meetings this week are a big part of the completion of their Master Plan.  Another key aspect to the future of the zoo will be to raise private support. He recognizes the cost for what will be the final product cannot all come from tax dollars.

The meetings are Tuesday February 28th at 6 and 7 pm at the Miller Park Pavilion, just outside Miller Park. Tetzloff is very excited to hear what the community has to say and invites you to come and give your input on the future of the Miller Park Zoo.
