The City of Lincoln was host to one of their bigger events of the year this past weekend.
Lincoln Jr. High School is host to a large basketball tournament featuring over 100 teams from all over the country. Executive Director at the Abe Lincoln Tourism Bureau Geoff Ladd says this is a huge event for Logan County because it fills their hotels, people shop the local stores and eat at heir restaurants.
The economic importance of this tournament to Lincoln and Logan County is huge to the area. Ladd calls sports tourism "recession-proof". He says sports is a different way to look at economic development with other industries fading.
Another key player in the annual tournament in the Lincoln/Logan County Sports Commission which seeks to bring sporting events and tournaments to the Lincoln area as a part of economic development. The Commission has already secured a number of softball tournaments for the summer time for Logan County.
