U of I Trustee: Clear Hogan Couldn't Survive

University of Illinois trustees say it became clear in the week before Michael Hogan's resignation that he couldn't repair his relationship with faculty and remain president of the school.

Trustee Timothy Koritz says Board members met with Hogan behind closed doors during a March 15 trustees meeting and said things weren't working out.

Just days before, Hogan had vowed to settle differences with faculty who had complained about his management style and his plans. Unhappy faculty members were also upset by anonymous emails intended to generate support for 1 of those plans that were blamed on Hogan chief of staff Lisa Troyer. She's denied involvement but resigned.

Hogan said March 22 he will resign effective July 1. Longtime administrator Robert Easter will take over.
