Exelon Makes Donation To Lincoln Heritage Committee

A local corporation continues to step up in the Clinton community, this time to help preserve a local organization aimed at preserving DeWitt County's history.

Exelon Nuclear Power Station recently donated $4-thousand to the Lincoln Heritage Committee of DeWitt County. Chair of the Committee, Joey Woolridge, says the committee is very grateful to Exelon for the donation and the funds are going to be put to good use throughout the year.

The Committee has also used the money to put up signs around the County to promote their sites. Woolridge points out there is a new sign out on US Highway 51 under the current DeWitt County Museum signage.

There area several unique parts of the sign. Woolridge explains normally, Abraham Lincoln penned his name, A. Lincoln. But she wanted a signature with his name spelled out, which was difficult to find. Another unique aspect to the sign is Lincoln without his beard. Woolridge says, when Lincoln was in DeWitt County, he was a beard-less man.

The Lincoln Heritage Committee also has an exhibit at the Warner Library titled, "Lincoln in DeWitt County". The Exhibit features the full signature of Abraham Lincoln along with a picture of Lincoln without his facial hair.
