Cards; Sox Take Respective Weekend Rivalry Series'

(St. Louis, MO)  --  Matt Carpenter finished 4-for-4 with five RBI and a run scored to lift the Cardinals to a 10-3 victory over the Cubs in the finale of a three-game set on Sunday afternoon at Busch Stadium.  Paul Maholm lasted just four innings for the Cubs, yielding six runs on six hits to take the loss.  Reed Johnson had two hits, an RBI and two runs scored and Starlin Castro also knocked in a run for Chicago, which has now dropped each of its three series to open the season.  The Northsiders are off today.  They head to Miami to kick off a three-game series with the Marlins tomorrow evening.  Ryan Dempster will go up against Josh Johnson in the opener. The Cards start a three-game set with the Reds tomorrow night.

(Chicago, IL)  --  Rick Porcello went seven-and-two-third strong innings as the Tigers avoided a sweep with a 5-2 win over the White Sox on Sunday afternoon in the Windy City.  Chris Sale gave up three runs on five hits over five-plus innings to take the loss for the White Sox.  A.J. Pierzynski drove in a run in the ninth for Chicago, which saw its four-game win streak come to an end.  The Southsiders open up a four-game series against the Baltimore Orioles this evening at The Cell.  Philip Humber will get the nod opposite Jake Arrieta in the opener.
