Asbestos Removal Set At Closed Illinois School

The first phase of asbestos removal is set to start May 1 at a central Illinois junior high school that was forced to close for the rest of the school year.

Renovations are projected to cost $3.2 million at Chiddix Junior High School. The school closed in late February for the school year after Illinois Department of Public Health recommended sealing ten classrooms and extensive air tests. The renovations will include new ceilings, carpeting, lighting and furniture. It also includes asbestos removal work.

All work is scheduled to be finished by the time school starts in the fall. Asbestos removal should be finished by June 4.
