Clinton Schools Outline Summer Projects

The Clinton School districts summer maintenance projects for this summer have been identified.

Several of the outlined high school upgrades will be getting underway this summer, but the summer maintenance projects will be separate endeavors for the district. Superintendent of the Clinton School District, Dr. Jeff Holmes outlines a couple of projects to take place at the high school' football field. Dr. Holmes says one of those is going to be, in essence, a safer light switch for the football field lights and scoreboard.

The visitors bleachers will be getting some work done on them to make them safer. Dr. Holmes explains every other year, the district has their bleachers inspected for safety issues, and some issues have been noted needing fixing. Dr. Holmes feels it would be better to spend money now to get those issues addressed than have a more expensive liability in the future.

Even though the school district will be vacating and tearing down Washington and Webster schools, Dr. Holmes says the district will be doing smaller projects to maintain the buildings until students and faculty are out. At Douglass, a ramp for the handicapped students will be put in and courtesy of grant money, the junior high school will receive more energy efficient lights.

Another potential maintenance item that could be determined later relates to the air handling units above the high school gym. The Board of Education would like to receive bids to find out what removing those units, which currently has one out of service and is costing the district money to run, and then putting in air conditioning in the gym. An original bid of $95-thousand came in to have those units fixed.
