Illinois' economy will take a big hit if Governor Quinn and lawmakers go forward with plans to cut two-point-seven-billion dollars from the Medicaid system.  That's a according to the Ralph Martire [[Mar-teeri]], with the Responsible Budget Coalition, who says tens of thousands will be put out of work.

Drastic cuts to the state's Medicaid program could ultimately hit you in the wallet. Martire adds when the state backs away from providing the services, homeowners will end up paying the price.

The Coalition says lawmakers should look for ways to boost revenues to help pay for the system.  They support Quinn's proposal to add a one dollar tax on cigarettes.  Illinois lawmakers are looking for ways to reform the Medicaid system and reign in the cost of the program.  Quinn says lawmakers must reach a deal by May 31st, otherwise he'll call them back for special session during the summer.
